Flow Cytometry

Flow Cytometry

A technique used for different cellular properties which enables the properties to be readily identified by measuring the fluorescence levels of the fluorophore-labelled cells at varying wavelengths.Parameters include the granularity and size of the cells, cellular expression levels of proteins, and determination of subsets of immune cells using phenotypic and functional markers of interest. The lab applies fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) to select subsets of PBMCs to be isolated and analysed based on their functionality. The Instrument is normally housed in the Immunovirology and vaccine development laboratory.
